On October 20, 2023, the College of Music, Mahasarakham University, collaborated with the Japan Foundation, Bangkok and Japan Airlines organizing MIKAGE PROJECT ASEAN TOUR 2023 at Mae Nam Khong Auditorium, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Mahasarakham University. The collaborative event aims to celebrate 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Japan Friendship. The MIKAGE Project comprised three members with three Japanese musical instruments; Sato Kouki (Shakuhachi, Shinobue, Ohayashi, percussion instruments), Asano Sho (Tsugaru Shamisen, vocals), and Honma Takashi (25-strings Koto). Their style is traditional Japanese folk music, and this was their first time performing in Thailand.

Japanese music originated from traditional Japanese instruments and it has been developed to Japanese rock music and anime songs that are popular among Japanese people, especially among teenagers. MIKAGE Project introduces Japanese folk songs called “Minyo”. Minyo songs have been admired and well known among Japanese people, and are known as the songs of the people, reflecting the way of life of Japanese people in local areas. The style has continued until the present day and become a performing art. The performing art presented by MIKAGE PROJECT is unique and continues to perform the beloved folk songs of Japanese people today and for future generations to come.
