Mahasarakham University and Office of Social Enterprise Promotion to Propel the 3rd Social Enterprise Roadshow
On May 26, 2023, the Office of Social Enterprise Promotion (OSEP) in collaboration with Mahasarakham University organized the development of cooperation with network organizations to create a space to exchange knowledge on issues at the local level (3rd SE Roadshow, 2023) at Avani Khon Kaen Hotel & Convention Centre, Khon Kaen Province.
Mrs. Napa Setthakorn, Director of the Office of Social Enterprise Promotion (OSEP), presided over the opening ceremony. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chonlatee Phothong, Deputy Dean for Administrations, Graduate School, along with representatives from Mahasarakham University, delivered a welcome speech and led the Graduate School staff. Additionally, the Center for Cooperation with Industry at Mahasarakham University has joined the project.
Mrs. Napa Setthakorn expressed that the project follows a successful trajectory, building upon the achievements of the previous editions held in Chiang Mai and Chonburi provinces. The primary objective is to establish effective collaborations with educational institutions and interested network organizations, fostering a platform for knowledge exchange and strengthening networks among the government, private sector, community, and the general public. This concerted effort aims to cultivate a robust social enterprise ecosystem at the local and regional levels. The office is fully prepared to embark on the pilot project across four regions, namely the North, the East, the Northeast, and the South, marking an exciting step forward in the initiative’s implementation.
The objective of this project is to drive the development of social enterprises, aiming to establish a network of social enterprises, social enterprise groups, and regional-level entrepreneurs. It involves creating awareness about the context and benefits of social enterprises among entrepreneurs in the area, while also enhancing their business capabilities towards registering as social enterprises.
The event comprised various activities, including presentations on social enterprises and their role in local economic development, decoding the success of social enterprises, exploring opportunities for social enterprises as government partners, and engaging in Social Enterprise Sharing discussions. Additionally, there was a special activity called the Social Enterprise Clinic, offering consultations on crucial dimensions of operating social enterprises. This initiative has received support from a network of organizations, including the Office of Commercial Affairs (Khon Kaen), the Government Savings Bank, the medium and small-sized Enterprise Promotion Office, the medium and small-sized Thai Credit Guarantee Corporation, MSU Science Park, the University Industrial Corporation and KKU Science Park.Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chonlatee Phothong stated that Mahasarakham University has been selected as the sole host in the northeastern region for this event organized in collaboration with the Office of Social Enterprise Promotion (OSEP). This opportunity serves as an excellent starting point for business entrepreneurs from various groups, including professors, students, and alumni, to meet and establish social enterprise networks. Moreover, it encourages knowledge exchange between entrepreneurs and regional network organizations. Mahasarakham University is fully prepared to promote, develop, and drive the creation of social enterprise networks.
