Please introduce yourself

My name is Sreyly Heng, or you can call me Sky as my nickname. Currently, I am working as a Marketing Development with Kubota Leasing Cambodia in my home country, Cambodia.

What makes you proud as an MSU student?

I was the first daughter in my family and the first one among my group of friends to get a 100% scholarship to study abroad and came back with the proudest result I’ve ever imagined. All this achievement would not happen without the help of Maha Sarakham Business School, my cherished professors, faculty staffs, and all of my friends who have given me love, support, and kindness in every way throughout my journey, especially Mahasarakham University for giving the opportunity to have my bachelor’s degree over there and shaping who I am today.

What is your key to success for study?

Every student always has unique learning habits and preferences, but I would like to share some tips that I have found useful while attending Mahasarakham University. The most important thing to do during each learning session is to pay close attention, take notes, and try to understand the main points. For example, when it comes to lecture subjects, try to understand, and take note of what the topic is talking about and summarize it into short paragraphs for easier understanding. Similarly, when it comes to calculating subjects, try to work out the solution steps and practice as many exercises as you can, so that if there is a problem during workout, we can ask the professors immediately.  Second, going over what you’ve learned with friends or reviewing it yourself is a great way to help yourself remember for much longer, especially do not forget to practice the exercises repeatedly as many times as you can. Finally, do not hesitate to reach out for help from friends or lecturers when you do not understand any points. It is actually a good practice to have discussion sessions with other people to share each other’s ideas and opinions to avoid being stressed out when you cannot solve the problem by yourself alone.

How do you handle stress and problems during your study?

Having good grades does not come easily without hard work from yourself and support from everyone. As an international student, I have to admit that there were countless times I wanted to give up when I was having trouble adjusting to life and homesickness. So, what you can do is to find something that can calm your nerves, whether it is watching movies, drinking coffee, doing exercise, meeting new people, or even going out to nightclubs with friends. Personally, whenever I could not think of the solutions to any assignments, I would like to give myself some breaks by watching my favorite genre of movies. I found this very soothing since it gives my mind a way to escape from stressful situations, at least for a while. Another effective remedy that has worked for me is to enjoy my own company. Living in another country is a huge challenge due to language limitation and culture differences, so what I could do that time was to consider it as a life improvement, not a problem, because even though it is good to talk and get advice from someone, but no one could understand yourself best and no one could help you all the time if you could not help yourself. For that, I started to accept adaptation to be responsible for my choice and seek support from family, foreign friends, and my professors along the way as well.

What’s your motto?

My motto: “To be successful, you don’t need to be better than anyone else, you just need to compete with your old self and focus on your progress.”
