MSU Performs at 13th China–ASEAN (Nanning) Music Festival 2024

On November 6th, students and faculty members from the College of Music, MSU participated in the 13th China-ASEAN (Nanning) Music Festival 2024. The event was held from November 6th to 11th and took place in Nanning, Guangxi Province, People’s Republic of China. This festival serves as a platform for showcasing the amazing musical works of composers from countries across the ASEAN region and China.

On this occasion, Asst. Prof. Narongruch Woramitmaitree, a faculty member at the Department of Western Music, was honored to represent Thailand the Summit of music leaders and experts. In addition, he also delivered a special lecture on melody composition to Chinese students at Guangxi Art University. This festival aimed to promote cultural and artistic exchange between ASEAN member countries and China.

The performances presented at the event included the piece “Alai Pra Pho Bhumibol” (In Remembrance of The Late King Bhumibol), composed by Asst. Prof. Narongruch Woramitmaitree and delivered by the Guiyang Symphony Orchestra along with a choir from Guangxi Art University, which was performed during the closing ceremony. Additionally, Asst. Prof. Akapong Phulaiyaw showcased the folk songs “Mae Hang Klom Look” (A Widow’s Lullaby) and “Toey Khong” from his “Lai Lam” Piano Patterns research series. Ms. Qiao Yi, a doctoral student from MSU, also performed “The Sound Rhyme of Yao Mountains” and “Spring Rain in The Zhuang China”.

In addition to these performances, there was a discussion on collaboration between the College of Music, MSU, and Guangxi Art University. This discussion involved Asst. Prof. Sayam Chuangprakhon, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the College of Music, and Prof. Zhong Juncheng, a renowned Chinese composer, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Thai-Chinese relations. In 2025 the College of Music will bring the Isan Orchestra band to participate in this festival, symbolizing the enduring friendship and relationship between the two nations.
