MSU Hosts “Esports in Schools” to Pave the Way for the New Generation to Enter the Esports Industry
On November 26, 2024, the Faculty of Informatics, MSU, in collaboration with the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) and Pico (Thailand) Public Company Limited, organized the “Esports in Schools” project. This event aimed to inspire and promote a positive attitude toward careers in the esports industry among students, teachers, and parents at schools across the country.
Assoc.Prof. Jantima Polpinij, Dean of the Faculty of Informatics, gave a welcome speech, and Mr. Pradit Kongphunga, Manager of the Central Northeastern Branch of deca, along with Asst. Prof. Suwichai Pansa, Chair of the Bachelor of Science in Digital Media program at the Faculty of Informatics, led students and participants with relevant work in the gaming, esports, or digital content industries to join the event in the Film Screening Room at the Faculty of Informatics.
The “Esports in Schools” event was organized with the aim of enhancing the skills of Thai youth, children, and students to become quality esports athletes capable of competing in the industry. It also sought to raise awareness and understanding among parents and educators about the importance and career pathways within the esports industry, as well as to inspire children and youth interested in the esports sector. Additionally, the event aimed to provide opportunities and experiences that could lead to careers in the esports industry.
During the event, the regional representative from depa presented a flag to the Faculty of Informatics as a symbol of their role as the host for the depa “Esports in Schools” event. After that, participants listened to an Inspiration Talk on the topic of “E-Sports: Turning Gaming into a Career,” delivered by a renowned esports expert and influencer. The event then proceeded with the depa eSports Daily Tournament competition, followed by the announcement of the results and the awarding of prizes. The results of the competition were as follows:
- The First Place Award went to the MSU Esports team from Mahasarakham University.
- The Second Place Award went to the Ruam Thai Sang Chat team from Sarakham Pittayakhom School, Mahasarakham Province.
- The Third Place Award went to the Gland Lake team from Mahasarakham University and the Jer Tee Mee Wan by Lookaod team from Sarakham Pittayakhom School.
Assoc. Prof. Jantima Polpinij, Dean of the Faculty of Informatics, stated that the faculty has placed great importance on supporting various activities related to esports alongside teaching. The aim is to inspire and foster a positive attitude among students, encouraging them to pursue careers in the esports industry in the future. The faculty is also committed to promoting the development of esports professionals to meet future market demand. This event provided an important opportunity to educate teachers, educators, and youth, helping to promote the quality growth of the esports industry.
