MSU Participates in the Opening Ceremony of the International World Trade of Herbal City 2024 Exhibition

On June 8th, Mahasarakham University, led by Assoc.Prof. Prayook Srivilai, Acting President of Mahasarakham University, along with administrators, faculty members, and MSU staff, participated in the opening ceremony of the International World Trade of Herbal City 2024 exhibition at the Chaloem Phrakiat building. The event took place at Mahasarakham University (Downtown Campus), Mueang District, Maha Sarakham province. Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin, Minister of Public Health and Vice Chairman of the National Herbal Policy Committee, presided over the opening ceremony and delivered a special address on the topic “Thai Herbal Medicine: Developing the Thai Economy”. Mr. Wiboon Waewbundit, the Governor of Maha Sarakham province, delivered the welcoming remarks.

Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health, stated that the International World Trade of Herbal City 2024 exhibition is being held from June 7th to 11th. The purpose of the event was to showcase the potential of herbal farmers from the central and northeastern regions of Thailand, as well as herbal cities nationwide, in producing high-quality herbal raw materials. It aimed to build confidence among large-scale herbal entrepreneurs both domestically and internationally, and to demonstrate the potential of driving the country’s economy with Thai herbs. Additionally, it seeks to promote continuous development of herbal cities in the future. Activities within the event include herbal city booths.

The event featured over 100 booths, including Thai massage and traditional Thai medicine services, academic booths showcasing research and innovations in herbal medicine from various organizations and networks in the central and northeastern regions of Thailand. There were booths for both public and private sector herbal entrepreneurs for business matchmaking. Additionally, there were displays of safe agricultural products from the Young Smart Farmer and OTOP groups from Maha Sarakham province. Attendees included herbal entrepreneurs from both domestic and international sectors, such as China, Vietnam, and Laos, as well as the general public, students, businesspersons, and stakeholders, with over 10,000 participants.

In this event, Mahasarakham University, represented by the Faculty of Medicine, PharmCare Pharmaceutical, Faculty of Pharmacy, Walai Rukhavej Botanical Research Institute, and the Research Institute of Northeastern Art and Culture, collaborated to set up booths showcasing products, research, and innovations in herbal medicine. The aim was to present the advancements in research and products in herbal medicine developed by the university and to share knowledge about the values and benefits of herbs with interested individuals. Mahasarakham University continues to focus on continuous research and development in herbal medicine to provide sustainable knowledge and high-quality outputs to society.
