Mahasarakham University was ranked 18th by University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) 2017-2018 in Country Ranking, 782nd in Region Ranking, and 2,141st in World Ranking. MSU was classified into B Class by the ranking indicator, and was analyzed using 6 raw data including Article (Scientific Productivity), Citation (Research Impact), Total Document (Scientific Productivity), Article Impact Total (Research Quality), Citation Impact Total (Research Quality), and International Collaboration.
 
The University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) is a nonprofit organization, established at Informatics Institute of Middle East Technical University in 2009. The main objective of URAP is to develop a ranking system for the world universities based on academic performances which determined by quality and quantity of scholarly publications. This yearly World Ranking of 2000 Higher Education Institutions have been released since 2010.
