Bai Sri Su Kwan by Mahasarakham University, the Isan Traditional Welcome Ceremony for MSU Freshmen
 
Mahasarakham University by the Division of Student Affairs in cooperation with the Student Organization held “Bai Sri Su Kwan,” the Isan Traditional Welcome Ceremony for 2020 new undergraduate students on July 13, 2020 at Octagonal Park Arts between the COPAG and College of Music building, Mahasarakham University (Khamriang Campus). 
 
Strongly believed in the Northeastern unique traditions and customs, Mahasarakham University has annually been holding on this ritual ceremony to welcome good spirits to the new students on a beginning of the first semester. This is with a belief that all students has their own natural resource called Kwun (Spirits), which would take care of them throughout their time of living at Mahasarakham University they are.  
 
On the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prayook Srivilai, the President of Mahasarakham University delivered his welcome remarks to new undergraduate students. “The rite of Bai Sri Su Kwun is a ritual activity that would encourage your mental strength. The strong mind would support you all to succeed your tasks, as you wished. This is also with a hope for a good luck and happy life to everyone,” said by the President. 
 
Normally, all new undergraduate students will join this ceremony everyyear. In contrary, 1,000 representative students got a chance to join the ceremony for this year regarding the COVID-19 outbreak. Mahasarakham University strictly advised all atendees to wear face masks, keep their social distance and sit on the arranged seats only. This was under the new normal to avoid spreading of COVID-19.
