“MK Serum,” New Product developed from a Research on Yam Bean by Mahasarakham University 
 
Mahasarakham University promoted “MK serum,” the serum extracted from Yam Bean with triple Hyaluronic acid that can reduce wrinkles, moisturize and brighten up skin. This new product was developed from a research on Yam Bean, the local fruit of Borabue District, Mahasarakham Province, which is conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Methin Phadungkit, the lecturer of Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahasarkham University. 
 
From the study, it is reported that Yam Bean (Scientific name: Pachyrhizus erosus) is used for the UV protection and skin brightening by the local Indonesian people. Yam Bean can boost immune system, prevent Osteoporosis and inhibit tyrosinase. Yam Bean also have antioxidant activities, and is rich of polysaccharide and phenolic compounds. These referred characteristics can help human body to stop growing melanin, slow down cell deterioration, and maintain youthful and growing skin. 
 
The study has been recently developed by Dr. Suphakanya Tantrabundit, Head of the Research Department, PharmCare Pharmaceutical, Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahasarkham University. Triple Hyaluronic acid is added in the serum extracted from Yam Bean to trap moisture under skin and keep skin firm for long time. Finally, the developed serum is branded, “MK Serum,” and sold by PharmCare Pharmaceutical. “MK” is referred to Thai name of Yam Bean “Mankaew,” the origin province of Yam Bean “Mahasarakham,” and the initiator of this serum “Methin Phadungkit”
 
During the press conference on July 2, 2020, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prayook Srivilai, the President of Mahasarakham University, said in relation to MK Serum that PharmCare Pharmaceutical, Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahasarkham University is a pharmaceutical industry established with purposes to distribute the quality herbal medicines and natural products to the public. This is also to support local agriculturists to earn more income by boosting up the standard of raw material for making herbal medicines and natural products. 
 
MK serum is the success in adding up the value to Yam Bean transforming a cheap fruit into a premium cosmetic under the integration of local wisdom and scientific research procedure by the experts of Mahasarakham University. It is one of effective factors resulted in economic development of Thailand.
