MSU Researchers attends “Training of Trainers on Urban Resilience and Making Cities Resilient” organized by UNDRR

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Piyapatr Busababodhin, Director of Digital Innovation Research for Integrated Disaster Management in the Watershed (DIIDM Research Cluster) together with Dr. Thayukorn Phrabumrung, Director of Climate Change, Mitigation and Adaptation Research Unit (CMARE) attended “Training of Trainers on Urban Resilience and Making Cities Resilient” organized by United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction; UNDRR at Incheon, Republic of Korea during 22rd-24th March 2023 as the promoter of the disaster network mechanism, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahasarakham University under the technical support from the Thai Network for Disaster Resilience and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction. The attendees consisted of board of directors of Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and National Municipal Association of Thailand and the representatives from Mahasarakham Education and Local Departments, Mr. Settha Naresuwan (Sheriff of Kantharawichai District) and Mr. Phakin Thirapongpaiboon (Mayor) together with Mr. Thatchai Thirapongpaiboon.

This course aimed to (1) develop a trained cadre of experts and build knowledge and capacities of key stakeholders in Thailand on Cities Resilient and the Disaster Resilience, particularly the use of diagnostic instrument, (2) evaluate the progress of resilience and indicate the major actions (3) reduce the risks and also to foster experience sharing and exchange among participating municipalities and good practices to laying the foundation for urban reconstruction projects in Thailand through Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) that aligns with Sustainable Development Goals No.11 Sustainable Cities and Communities which focuses on building cities and human settlements safe, resilient and sustainable which focuses on ensuring the safety, resilience and sustainability of new cities and settlements.”Goal No.13 Urgent Global Warming Solving is to be able to manage the climate crisis and its impacts. Mahasarakham Area planned to develop spatial mechanisms in conjunction with the use of digital platforms for data management services. A memorandum of understanding will be made with Mitigation and the National Municipal Association of Thailand to further integrate cooperation towards constructing a resilient city at the local level. This will be done in order to develop local potential for a resilient smart city through interdisciplinary cooperation with Mahasarakham University as a mentor.
