MSU lecturer wins the National Research Award from Thailand Inventor’s Day 2021-2022

Asst. Prof. Kasorn Wongkasem, Lecturer from Mechatronics Engineering Field, Faculty of Engineering, Mahasarakham University won the National Research Award on topic “Semi-automatic weaving loom to conserve Pha Yok Thai” on category: Invention award at good level from Thailand Inventor’s Day 2021-2022, held by National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) and Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. “Pha Yok” is a method of making a pattern on the fabric by separating the threads up and down and inserting the weft threads along the selected lines by using three or more heddle. “Semi-automatic weaving loom to conserve Pha Yok Thai” is a method that uses technology and Thai identity together to help in weaving Pha Yok by using a device to control the patterning mechanism on the fabric and the weaver can add their own unique patterns as needed. In addition, it also reduces the number of weavers from 2-3 people to only one. This makes it possible to increase the weaving rate 2.5 times as compared to weaving in the same pattern. Moreover, it is also suitable for all ages, especially the new generation with no weaving skills, or the elderly and even the leg-handicapped can use this loom. In the pattern section, there are more than 500 weave patterns are recorded. More information: msu.ac.thTranslator: Kanyakorn Chukhanhom
