MSU Co-organized the 8th QS WorldClass Seminar in Phuket
The 8th QS WorldClass Seminar co-organized by QS Quacquarelli Sysmond PTE LTD and Mahasarakham University on March 25-27, 2015 at JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, Thailand was a successful event. University leaders from 39 universities and 10 University – Industry partners from 20 countries across the world exchanged their valuable knowledge through discussions and presentation on “Higher Education, Commerce and Community: New Partnerships for Knowledge Development.”
Ms. Mandy Mok, Chief Executive Officer of QS Asia Quacquarelli Symonds, Dr. Kevin Downing, Academic Chair of QS WorldClass and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supachai Samappito, Acting President of Mahasarakham University delivered the warmest welcome remarks to all the delegates as the seminar formally opened on March 26, 2015. Besides, Prof. Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Chairman of the C-UBI Operation Committee for the Upper-Northeastern Higher Education Network, Thailand delivered the Keynote Address on the University – Industry Collaboration Programs in Thailand.
As the co-organizing partner, MSU took part in the speakership led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Adisak Pattiya, Head of the Bio-Energy and Renewable Resources Research Unit who gave a presentation entitled “Innovative Knowledge Development at Mahasarakham University through Collaboration with Industry and Community: A Case Study on the Production of MSU Bio-Oil from Biomass Wastes for Fueling Industrial Burners and Community Vehicles and Dr. Pongsuda Pongtanya, Director of Product and Technology Development Center, SCG Paper Public Co. Ltd, Thailand presented the “Strategic Research Development through External Collaboration at SCG Paper.” These topics responded well to the 8th QS WorldClass Seminar’s theme in bridging the university – industry gap.
QS WorldClass is an annual series of professional lifestyle seminars that exclusively convenes university leaders from around the world – especially Asian university presidents – in a prestigious setting to help universities develop the strategies they need to boost their global recognition.
In the three – day event, most of the delegates enjoyed the camaraderie – boosting activities such as the Tennis Friendlies, Spa Sessions, a half – day city tour and dinners with ISAN Cultural dance and Jazz musical performances from MSU students of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts and College of Music.
