MSU Amateur Radio Club Scores High In Worldwide VHF Contest

Hearty congratulations are extended to the ambitious Mahasarakham University students and former students who comprise the MAHASARAKHAM UNIVERSITY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB. They were winners in a recent weekend long worldwide competition that pitted their technical knowledge and communication skills against thousands of other amateur radio operators from around the world.

This annual event called the CQ Worldwide VHF Contest, offers participants an opportunity to develop their skills in a variety of categories including creative VHF radio station construction. antenna theory, characteristics of VHF propagation, emergency power generation, communication procedures, national safety and record keeping.

The coordinators at MSU for this year's  event included former student and current advisor to the MSU AMATEUR RADIO CLUB Ray T. Moonton, whose amateur radio call sign is HS4RAY. Ray and HS4ROI Krittikorn Kunkang won 5th in the world in the Rover Category, operating a station from moving car. Club advisor Ajarn Paul Dulfer (HS0ZJT) presented the participating students with lots of sugary treats to help keep them alert through the long weekend competition.

The student operators are licenced amateur radio operators from MSU and operated their contest station from the seventh floor of the RN Building. Team members included HS4YFR Parinya Boonsawat, HS4OZG Dutsadee Srikhote, HS3SMS Panupon Wongman, HS4OXW Nuttaya Donsinpool and HS4YGC A-longkot Gatmat. They ranked 5th in the world in their category.

The club members typically participate in numerous communication activities throughout the year and maintain an open invitation to students who would like to find out more about the world of radio frequency communications. The MSU ARC is one of many similar clubs around Thailand and is related to the Radio Amateur Society of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King.
