The faculty began in 1968 as a subdivision of the College of Education, Mahasarakham. It became an independent faculty in 1994. In addition to producing graduates with expertise in many areas of pure and applied science, the faculty places emphasis on the teaching processes, as well as on research for environmental protection, conservation and utilization of biodiversity and bio-mass energy available in rural areas. The faculty has also gained a reputation for utilizing scientific knowledge in solving problems in local communities. The faculty includes the departments of chemistry, physics, mathematics and biology as well as research units covering many areas of science and applied science.

Overview

 

Over the years, wide varieties of fossils, especially from dinosaurs, have been uncovered in Thailand. As a result, palaeontology is quickly becoming a subject of particular interest and importance. In 2002, Mahasarakham University established the Palaeontological Research and Education Centre (PRC) to study and conduct research in the field of palaeontology as well as raise awareness of Thai people concerning the conservation and preservation of natural resources.

 

The main objective of the Master’s Program in Palaeontology is to provide graduates with an understanding of the evolution of biodiversity in deep time as well as the conceptual and methodological tools to conduct valuable research leading to problem solving at local, regional, national, and international levels.
